The Challenge ☎️
Production was limited by a lab-scale batch process, producing only 3 liters per run. The workflow depended on full manual supervision, with slow cycles of 3–5 days per liter. Scaling would have required costly equipment and specialized staff, not feasible at an early stage.
The Nalca Biotech Solution: Feasibility Test
Nalca 1 was implemented as a continuous-simplified, automated fermentation setup. The team provided hands-on technical guidance to identify key technological gaps and reduce risk before scaling.
Next step? Pilots and continuous business support
Outcomes
- Efficient. Fermentation times were significantly reduced, achieving a 5.3x speed improvement compared to a linear batch system.
- Autonomous. Higher production volumes were reached without constant operator supervision, breaking the lab-scale ceiling and demonstrating technical and economic scalability.
- Business supported. Nalca Biotech assisted in translating pilot production into a clear industrial use case, supporting discussions with a leading player in the salmon industry.
